I can’t believe this is the last time I’ll be writing for this beautiful newspaper, filled with memories, stories, and so many new friendships.
Saying goodbye to the Prax and to Loretto still doesn’t feel real, even with graduation just a few days away.
It’s strange to think that something that has been such a constant in my life for an entire school year is coming to an end, and I don’t think it will fully sink in until the day I see the next edition of the Prax published—and realize I had nothing to do with it.
Loretto Academy and the Prax have been a huge part of who I am today, and of the path I will build for myself in the future.
I remember when I first arrived during my sophomore year and how intimidated I felt by everything—the expectations, having to speak in English, and trying to find where I belonged.
Slowly, all of those fears became distant memories, because I found my place in the Prax with the amazing girls I had the privilege to work with.
I want to thank my Co-Editor-in-Chief, Olivia Montelongo. Not only would I never have been able to publish without her, but she also became one of the friends I find hardest to leave behind.
I trust that the Prax will be in good hands during her senior year, and that, just like me, she will find herself in it and grow alongside it.
To all the editors I had the chance to write alongside—the juniors, and especially Laura Olvera, who is graduating with me—you have all left a mark on this newspaper, just as it has left one on us.
To Viviana Liano, who not only has a beautiful heart but also an incredible talent for writing—I’m so grateful for all the experiences we shared, both inside the classroom and beyond. Without this newspaper, I wouldn’t have someone I’ll miss so much when I leave.
To Ava Payne and Lyle Skillern, who I met this year—I’m proud of all the work you’ve put into this newspaper, and I hope you continue sharpening your journalistic skills.
Finally, to the teacher who taught me everything I know and trusted me with the opportunity to be Co-Editor-in-Chief: thank you, Mrs. Lockhart-Walker, for believing in me, for encouraging my writing, and for always pushing me to strive for more.
I am incredibly grateful for the Prax. It taught me how to write with purpose, how to pay attention to what’s happening around me, and how to give a voice to the issues that need to be heard.
Most importantly, it taught me how to find my own voice.
Becoming Editor-in-Chief was something I never expected. It challenged me in so many ways, but it also helped me grow into a more confident writer and leader.
To all the future writers who will join the Prax: take this class seriously, even when it challenges you, because it will teach you lessons you will carry with you for the rest of your life.
To the Prax, thank you for everything.
This is Marifer Reyes, signing out.
