Loretto Academy and Cathedral High School recently hosted their annual Track Invitational on February 27, where runners from both schools excelled and placed in multiple track and field events.
The schools present at this event were Loretto Academy, Cathedral High School, Jefferson, Tornillo, Riverside, YWLA, LPI, Austin, Gadsden, Bowie, Immanuel, Santa Teresa, and Jesus Chapel.
The invitational consisted of a wide range of events, starting with the field, followed by the long jump and triple jump categories.
The Loretto Academy track team also participated in numerous running events.
This consisted of the 100m, 200m, 300mH, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 4×1 relay, and 4×2 relay.
Junior Vivienne Colon paced the distance runners, taking first in the 1600m and second in the 800m.
Finishing in second place in the long jump category was freshman Sianne Benoit.
Finally, Madison Pirk secured third place in the 100m hurdles.

Overall, the team placed the highest with the sprinters running their own individual races such as the 100m, 200m, 300mH, and 400m.
Senior captain Joanna Huizar said, “I enjoyed this meet and was able to medal in one of my events. It was a fun experience, along with senior recognition taking place at this meet.”
She also participated in the 100m and 300mH, and was able to earn a medal for her impeccable hurdles.

Senior Madison Pirk said, “My experience has been amazing so far, being surrounded by all my friends, and I’m so excited to compete in districts in Dallas.”
The invitational was a successful and memorable meet with multiple top-three performances, personal records, and notable achievements on the track and in the field.
The dedication, teamwork, and competitive spirit of the team were a clear theme throughout the day, establishing an encouraging tone moving forward as they each continue their season.
With districts in Dallas coming up, the athletes return with confidence and momentum from an invitational that showcased, as much as their talent, their bond as a team.
