Team bonding
Team captain junior Emma Terrazas said, “I had a great experience! Travelling to Dallas with my teammates is always really fun. Getting to sleep in the same rooms, getting ready for our matches, and supporting each other makes the trip worth it.”
Serving up the heat
As a team, Coach Hugo Arreola and the athletes’ main strategy at regionals was stressing the importance of remaining patient with the ball, especially during rallies.
As a result, Loretto brought back success with multiple athletes placing at regionals.
Match point magic
Sophomore Ivanna Tirado placed third overall in singles in the competition.
In addition, freshman Montserrat Orozco and junior Emma Terrazas placed third in overall doubles.
Both athletes brought home the victory, ending regionals by qualifying for state.
This competition will occur on April 14 in Waco, Texas.
Junior tennis captain Emma Terrazas mentioned that one of her greatest challenges at regionals was the heat and humidity.
Emma said, “Also mental challenges when really wanting to win the match and trying not to get into our heads.”
Team support was a key factor in the team’s performance.
Hearing encouragement and noise from other schools motivated the athletes to push harder and keep fighting for every point.
The Loretto Academy tennis team truly made an impact in the sport by bringing determination and team spirit to the state competition in Waco.
