The arrival of the spring semester brings newfound excitement for all the traditions and activities awaiting Loretto students.

NHS inductions, Blood Drives, Student Honor Roll: the list is ongoing.

But behind the Student Activities desk, a new face is welcomed in the Loretto Community.

Newly appointed Student Activities Coordinator Mrs. Munoz is ready and excited to not only begin her own journey as a Loretto angel, but also bring new life to all students’ journeys.

Pathway to Loretto

Before becoming a Loretto Angel, Mrs. Munoz taught second, fifth, and sixth graders in the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD).

She then became an assistant principal and principal for an elementary school for 14 years before retiring from EPISD.

In retirement, Mrs. Munoz was appointed as the president of the LA Booster Club, an organization that focuses on raising money for Loretto through planning a variety of fundraisers and events.

This involvement led and prepared her to fill the role of Student Activities Coordinator, a job that requires experience in planning and organizing.

However, Mrs. Munoz’s connection to Loretto runs deeper than the Booster Club: she is a mother to two Loretto students, senior Ava Bella Munoz and junior Issabella Munoz, who have been a part of the Loretto community since middle school.

Reflecting on this connection, Mrs. Munoz said, “Being a parent has allowed me to view Loretto from a different lens and brought a new perspective to this job.”

Experiences and goals

Coming into a new school halfway through the year can be slightly daunting, but Mrs. Munoz’s experience has felt welcoming as she becomes more accustomed to the Loretto community every day.

Looking back on her first month at Loretto, Mrs. Munoz said, “I have loved my first month because everyone is so friendly, and my favorite part of the day is working with the girls.”

Not only does the Student Activities Coordinator help with events, but she is also the head sponsor for the National Honor Society and the Student Council.

This position entails working very closely with student leaders from all grades to bring their ideas to life for the benefit of the student body as a whole.

Loretto Academy is one of the oldest schools in El Paso and is therefore rooted in long-standing traditions and history.

One of Mrs. Munoz’s goals, she recounted, is to ensure that these traditions are upheld in a way that can last for the generations to come.

On her plans for the coming school years, Mrs. Munoz said, “Loretto is an amazing institute that has been here for over 100 years, so my biggest goal would be to understand all the traditions myself and make sure that those traditions are everlasting.”

Looking ahead

Halfway through the third quarter, Mrs. Munoz has been a great addition to the Loretto community, as we look forward to all the excitement the fourth quarter brings.

Student activities are all about collaboration, community, and school spirit, traits that Mrs. Munoz is an expert in.

With a new and spirited director, it is safe to say that Loretto’s traditions are in good hands.

Welcome to Loretto, Mrs. Munoz!
