The court comes alive again, kicking off the start of a new basketball season with new players fired up and ready to score.

The Loretto Academy basketball team starts its season off strong, with the junior varsity upholding a winning season and the varsity home tournament beginning on December 5.

The 2025-2026 basketball season is currently being led by varsity captain senior Ava Bella Munoz, who strives to make an impact on and off the court for her fellow teammates.

Ava Bella began her basketball journey at the age of five, where she fell in love with the sport and has continued it throughout her high school years.

With new Head Coach Walt, the team has learned to work with one another and adapt to the adversity experienced along the way.

Coach Walt has planned for the team to take on more competitive schools, such as El Paso High School and El Dorado High School.

The fierce competition continues to keep the girls on their toes, but it has served as a great learning experience for the team.

The team will play against their rival, Immanuel Christian, at the upcoming varsity Loretto tournament, which will determine much of the team’s success.

Varsity player and junior Isabella Farina said, “It is important to focus on skill, but I feel communication and connection are key factors that lead a team to victory.”

Head Coach Walt has had his players work on increasing their average points per game while also improving overall strength and endurance during game time.

As a result, the girls have had the opportunity to bond and build overall team chemistry.

Captain Ava Bella said, “Even if it’s conditioning or painful consequences to help us stay focused, I will always give it my 110% out of pure love.”

As the season unravels, the Loretto Academy basketball team remains determined to grow stronger not only as athletes but as a united sisterhood.
