On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Science National Honor Society (SNHS) held its induction ceremony to welcome new members into the Society.
The event was held in the Little Theater, and in attendance were current members of the society as well as inductees and their families.
The Loretto Science National Honor Society chapter is led by Ms. Salcido and Dr. Benavidez, who teach AP Environmental Science, Pre-AP Chemistry, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and forensic science.
As a relatively new organization to Loretto, the SNHS is excited to welcome its new members as they become increasingly involved in the Loretto community.
Organization of Ceremony
The ceremony began as inductees were ushered into the Little Theater by current members, and parents took their seats.
The opening speech was recited by SNHS Co-Presidents Colette Parham and Doryan Nassri, where they discussed the intended objectives of the society in encouraging the growth of scientific pursuits in the Loretto Community.
Co-Vice Presidents Aubrey Reha and Rebecca Chavez then explained the requirements and application process all inductees had to undergo to be considered for membership.
Next, the remaining SNHS officers, Olivia Montelongo, Valeria Arellano, Vera Chacon, and Goly Enriquez, explained the core values of the society: academic excellence, community, education, leadership, and service.
Doryan Nassri and Colette Parham then recognized the Society’s faculty sponsors and introduced the new members of the Loretto Academy High School Chapter of the Science National Honor Society.
New members were given a pin of the SNHS shield, what it is seen as a symbol of their membership and dedication to the field of science.
In total, there were six sophomores, 21 juniors, and eight seniors inducted into the chapter.
Once the ceremony concluded, inducted members and their families were invited to a reception in El Convento to celebrate their special achievements.

Importance of the event
The Loretto Academy Chapter of the SNHS was introduced to the school last winter; therefore, this year will be the first full year of activities for the society.
Faculty sponsor of the Society, Ms. Salcido, said, “The inductees are stepping into a role that carries responsibility, curiosity, and the promise to create meaningful change.”
Receiving new members at such a large number was a great milestone for the society, as they look forward to the activities they hope to organize this year.
To apply, a student requires a cumulative 3.25 GPA across all classes, a 3.5 GPA across all science classes, has received a science class award, and displays active participation in science-related activities.
On the importance of the new members, Ms. Salcido said, “The induction is not just a recognition of what the inductees accomplished, it is a challenge of what they will do next in the society.”
The Science National Honor Society induction ceremony was a recognition of the outstanding achievements of inducted members and a celebration of the growth of scientific pursuit in the Loretto community.
As the year comes to a close, the SNHS is excited to welcome its bright new members as the society hopes to further its involvement in Loretto Academy.
