The Taste of Loretto is an opportunity for eighth-grade students to spend a day with Loretto Student Ambassadors to learn more about Loretto Academy.
The ambassadors host students from different public and private middle schools in El Paso and Juarez, taking them to a class, lunch, and on a tour.
The day is divided in half to make it as interactive as possible and to encourage more students to visit.
It starts off with a meet and greet with the Angel Ambassadors, then the eighth graders are required to take the admissions test and be interviewed.
They then transition to entering classes with the Ambassadors and going to lunch there and sitting with them.
The day is completed with a tour of Loretto and a return for a final message from Admissions Coordinator, Ms. Nevárez.
The Angel Ambassadors are given the responsibility to guide the possible new students and show them how to navigate through their decisions and journeys.
Coming into a new school may be daunting for most, but Ambassadors make sure the transition is as seamless as possible.
Junior Lesley Castillo, a student ambassador, said, “In the mornings, I go greet and talk to them, so they feel comfortable.”
“The Ambassadors are role models, and we want to uphold an important standard of Loretto that many of us know of.”
How Angel Ambassadors are chosen
Ms. Nevárez said, “We ended up with 25 Ambassadors, and whichever is the last year to graduate, I look at the spots that I have to fill. But this year, we grew the team more than the usual number because we wanted to try something different.”
“What we were looking for, and what I’m looking for, is that charisma. You know, that natural ability to make that other person feel welcome.”
Students are required to have an 80 average, write two essays, and get two recommendations from teachers.
What makes Loretto different?
In addition to the dozens of clubs and sports, Loretto offers the chance of meeting new teachers and classmates, who help and guide each other every step of the way.
The Taste of Loretto encourages students to carry out the bonds of sisterhood and the legacy that was created years before them.
Loretto differentiates from other schools because it is smaller, and the teachers have the chance to teach one-on-one, which is something that other schools can’t compare to.
Through the Taste of Loretto, students are able to get important information and insights on what the next step is in their journey and see all the amazing opportunities that Loretto has to offer.
