Starting off the 2025 tennis spring season strong has led to excitement surrounding the team and coaches this new year.
This spring season, 16 girls are part of the Loretto tennis team, from freshman to seniors.
Tennis practices take place from Monday through Thursday at the El Paso Tennis Club, the girls compete in tournaments on Fridays.
The girls faced an obstacle this season which was searching for a new coach but were able to overcome the obstacle with Mrs. Lockhart’s help who recommended an incredible coach, Coach Hugo.
Coach Hugo coached at the El Paso Tennis and Swim Club for a while before coaching tennis at Loretto Academy, teaching the Loretto girls new techniques and helping them improve along the way.
Regionals
After challenging matches and seeing how the girls competed, Coach Hugo created a line up and took the top six girls to regionals in Dallas, TX: Grecia Mares, Alyssa Guerra, Renata Monares, Mia Cervantes, Ciana Chavez, and Emma Terrazas.

Tennis regionals took place from March 24 to March 26, 2025.
State
Seniors Mia Cervantes and Ciana Chavez qualified to attend the State Tennis Championships in Dallas after Ciana placed third overall and Mia placed fifth overall in the girl’s singles category.
Mia has been playing tennis on and off since she was nine years old, focusing on improving herself mentally and physically.
Mia Cervantes said, “When I’m playing what motivates me the most is just striving to be a better player in and out of the court, whether that’s by having good sportsmanship with my opponent or cheering on my fellow teammates.”
Ciana has played tennis for 14 years now, she started playing when she was five years old and started competitive tennis at the age of eight.
Ciana Chavez said, “My favorite tennis player is Emma Navarro, I admire the way she never gives up and always stays positive; even if she’s down four games, she won’t let the score affect her level of play or her mentality.”
The state match took place on April 7th and 8th where Ciana was able to play singles for the first time, giving it her best and playing strong.

The girls have come a long way during their spring season, making it to state and playing their best which will prepare them for next season.
As the 2025 season comes to an end, the girls will continue to make Loretto Academy proud by giving it their all next season and making it to state championships once again.
