On Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Loretto Science National Honor Society held its annual Pi Day, an exciting celebration honoring the mathematical constant pi in a way that all students could enjoy.
The celebration is held close to March 14 as a reference to the first three digits of pi, 3.14.
Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, containing an indefinite number of digits, and is essential for numerous fundamental mathematical subjects, including geometry, engineering, and physics.
To play on the word pi, many of the activities involved dessert pies, a creative way to combine math and science.
The event consisted of many fun activities, including a pi walk, a digits of pi contest, a guess the pie flavor game, and a pi trivia.
El Convento was full of colorful posters, lively music, and the pi symbol plastered everywhere as students laughed, competed in games, and showed their enthusiasm for Pi Day.
In addition to the many event stations, students also had the opportunity to take a pie in the face of members of the Science National Honor Society or brave teacher volunteers: Ms. Salcido, Dr. Benavidez, and Mr. Nieto.

Entry tickets were sold for $5 and covered participation in all activities, as well as provided students with extra credit for any teacher who agreed to participate.
The celebration was a massive success for the Science National Honor Society, raising a total of over $500, a testament to all the members’ hard work in planning the event.
Pi Day was an event to show students that math is not just a lesson learned in the classroom, but something that can bring people together to foster curiosity and create lasting memories!
