El Paso’s annual Winter Fest returned November 22 to San Jacinto Plaza, marking its 10th anniversary alongside the 30th anniversary of the popular Scherr Legate Lights Parade.

The winter celebration runs through January 4, and brings together families, students, performers, and local businesses for weeks of holiday entertainment in the heart of downtown El Paso.

Winter Fest features food trucks, festive light displays, live performances from local bands and high schools, and an ice skating rink at San Jacinto plaza.

The outdoor ice skating rink will remain open on non-holiday weeks as well as during Christmas and New Year’s weeks for families visiting during the holidays.

Holiday movie nights and opportunities for children to take pictures with Santa add to the festive traditions offered through the event.

Organizers say Winter Fest was created to bring the community together while supporting local performers, vendors, and downtown businesses during the busy holiday season.

On a chilly Saturday night, residents gathered downtown to enjoy the lights, music, food, and seasonal activities filling the plaza with holiday spirit.

Longtime Winter Fest attendee Mia Palomares said, “My favorite memory here is coming with my family every year and my brother comes in from out of town and we love to walk around.”

Palomares said, “El Paso doesn’t have much to do, so this is one of the things we get to do in the year that we look forward to.”

Another long time attendee, highlighted the importance of togetherness, Ivan Pierre said, “I like the people enjoying themselves, the family getting together.”

As Winter Fest continues into December, organizers and attendees hope the lights, performances, and tradition will keep creating memories.
