Eternal election day–Biden wins

The first Tuesday in November of every four years has everyone on the edge of their seats; this year was no different.

The tight race between former Vice President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump had every American waiting for election night only to end up waiting more days.

With millions of Americans voting by mail it took days to announce who will be the 46th president of the United States.

In those four days after Election Day of not knowing who would be the next president made people commit questionable actions.

For instance, Kayleigh McEnany, White House press secretary, tweeted the victory of Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

When in reality Pennsylvania still had votes to count.

Trump had won Pennsylvania in 2016 even with the state being historically democrat.

However Biden was able to turn his home state blue and gave him the win.

It was up to Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Alaska, and Arizona.

There were obvious predictions about what states would be red or blue, for instance democrats were relying on Nevada because it was the state that if it turned blue it would give Biden the electoral votes he needed.

Alaska, Georgia, and North Carolina were most likely going to be red states.

Trump did not flip any states that were blue in 2016 with Hillary Clinton, however Biden did.

Joe Biden managed to turn Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin.

Everyone thought that Texas and Florida would turn blue, however they didn’t.

Senior Victoria Chiu said, “Honestly I didn’t get my hopes up too much about Texas. I knew there was a chance of it flipping but I also knew it wasn’t for sure. Since it wasn’t an essential state for Biden I wasn’t worried when it went red.”

The Trump campaign has filed lawsuits against Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and demanded a recount in Wisconsin.

Trump tweeted, “We have claimed, for Electoral Vote purposes, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (which won’t allow legal observers) the State of Georgia, and the State of North Carolina, each one of which has a BIG Trump lead.

“Additionally, we hereby claim the State of Michigan if, in fact,….. there was a large number of secretly dumped ballots as has been widely reported!”

These elections turned the table to Trump, when in 2016 he won presidency through the electoral college vote.

Hillary Clinton had won the popular vote yet unexpectedly lost the electoral college vote.

Biden won 306 electoral votes and the popular vote.

Victoria Chiu said, “The time frame was really stressful because this country desperately needs change in leadership especially with Covid-19.”

Despite Joe Biden’s clear win of the elections, there are a few things that still need to happen.

Biden has to deal with Trump’s lack of cooperation in the transition.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama commented on Trump’s actions on Instagram.

She recounted her experience in the transition from George Bush to Obama saying to Obama to Trump.

Michelle Obama said, “Our love of country requires us to respect the results of an election even when we don’t like them or wish it had gone differently—the presidency doesn’t belong to any one individual or any one party.

“So I want to urge all Americans, especially our nation’s leaders, regardless of party, to honor the electoral process and do your part to encourage a smooth transition of power, just as sitting presidents have done throughout our history.”

What Michelle Obama said should resonate with everyone.

Despite the hectic week that was election week and the commotion that it created, Joe Biden will be the United States’ 46th president.
