America divided– unity demanded

The political atmosphere of the entire year has created panic across the country.

Even before November 3, stores and businesses were already taking precautions in case of riots from either republicans or democrats.

For starters the White House had a temporary fence that was ‘non-scalable’, similar to the one during the summer in George Floyd’s protests.

NBC had reported that 250 National Guardsmen were put on standby.

New York City’s Manhattan area had storefronts boarded up.

In Los Angeles, plywood and protective fencing were installed in businesses from Beverly Hills all the way to downtown LA.

For many business owners whose businesses were vandalized during the summer still have their memories fresh.

Many states, as a means of protection for citizens, wanted to install another curfew.

However the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Lawyers Guild sent a letter to 210 cities against doing so.

In Chicago a ten day “security plan” was announced including hundreds of trucks to block streets if needed.

However that was all done before November 3 and now after all of the “voter fraud” fiasco and the victory of Joe Biden, both celebrations and protests have occurred.

Democrats were ecstatic about Joe Biden’s victory and celebrations across the country were done.

Champagne bottles were popped, music was blasting, dancing, singing; everyone was happy.

In Washington, D.C. in the Black Lives Matter Plaza democrats were out celebrating.

People were shouting from their balconies in celebration and the song, “YMCA” was blasting in every single celebration.

In the majority of these celebrations people were wearing face masks however that didn’t stop republicans from calling them out for it, ironically.

Videos across social media surged of New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Denver, Austin, everywhere of people celebrating.

On the other hand republicans were protesting in other parts of the country claiming that voter fraud was committed and that the votes should stop being counted.

Million MAGA March, November 14, was held outside of the White House where Trump even made an appearance.

The Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers militia group attended the march.

As expected a fight broke down between counter-demonstrators and Trump supporters.

Twenty people have been arrested with charges including weapons possessions.

Officers were injured and a stabbing was reported.

In some protests, Arizona, Trump supporters were armed claiming that the elections were rigged.

On one side there are celebrations and on the other protests, the political climate of 2020 has divided the nation.

Biden has said that he wants to unify the country countless times.

Biden said, “I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unify; who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States.”

He has received backlash to that statement because he didn’t exactly unify the country during his campaign.

Unifying the country is as complex as it sounds, however Americans hope that with this new leadership the country will be unified.
