A tradition that runs on heart

Every year, one of the most anticipated traditions at Loretto Academy brings together students, families, alumni, and community members for a cause bigger than competition: the annual Nun Run.

More than just a race, the event is a joyful celebration of service, unity, and faith, raising funds to support the sisters’ mission work in Pakistan while strengthening one of the school’s most meaningful senior-led traditions.

The Nun Run is entirely organized by the senior class, making it their biggest event of the year and a defining leadership experience before graduation.

Months of planning go into coordinating logistics, promotion, sponsors, and race-day activities.

Seniors take pride in knowing their work directly contributes to charitable efforts abroad, turning what could simply be a school event into a mission-driven project with global impact.

Participants of all ages join the run, from young children to parents, teachers, and longtime supporters.

Some run competitively, others walk with friends, but everyone shares a sense of purpose.

The atmosphere is lively, music playing, and plenty of encouragement along the course, including seniors motivating people along the way.

Senior Mariana Ortega said, “I enjoyed dancing and motivating other people with my friends during the race, especially since people were tired. “

Her goal was to put a smile on people’s faces and to keep going to feel better.

This event feels less like a fundraiser and more like a community celebration.

What truly sets the Nun Run apart is how fun and uplifting it is.

Seniors dressed in nun costumes, team shirts, and spirited cheering add energy to the day, while the shared goal of helping others gives it deeper meaning.

Students often say it’s one of the moments when school spirit shines brightest, blending service with joy.

By the end of the event, the success isn’t measured only in funds raised but in memories made and connections strengthened.

For seniors especially, planning the Nun Run becomes a lasting reminder of leadership, compassion, and the tradition of giving that defines the Loretto experience, a tradition that continues to inspire each new generation to run not just for fun, but for faith and service.
