The 2025 NCAA Women’s National Championship concluded on Sunday, April 6, with the University of Connecticut Huskies defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks, 82-59.
This victory marked UConn’s 12th national championship and their first since 2016; no other school has as many titles.
The Huskies showed resilience and strength all season long led by Coach Geno Auriemma; he became the oldest coach to win a national championship at the age of 71.
The Huskies led by 10 points at halftime and 20 points after the third quarter, thanks to 24 points from Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong. Paige Bueckers contributed six rebounds and 17 points.
It was a rematch of the National Championship that South Carolina won in 2022.
However, UConn easily defeated the Gamecocks on Sunday, just as they had earlier in the season.
The return of Azzi Fudd, who was crowned Most Outstanding Player, from injury and the important contributions of both international and transfer players contributed to the team’s success.
Moved by determination and dominance, the 2025 NCAA championships highlighted the resilience of two tough teams; UConn surged back to the top, while Florida battled through adversity to capture its third men’s victory.
The Men’s National Championship concluded on Monday, April 7, with the University of Florida Gators narrowly defeating the University of Houston Cougars, 65–63.
This was Florida’s third national championship and their first since 2007.
The game was tightly played, with Houston leading at halftime; however, Florida’s defense managed to turn it around by the second half.
Walter Clayton Jr. was the Most Outstanding Player after scoring 34 in the semifinal against Auburn and greatly contributing to the championship game against Houston.
As the nets came down and confetti flew, the 2025 tournaments proved once again that college basketball’s most important moments are defined by comebacks, legacy, and rising stars.
