Award season began on January 5 with the 77th annual Golden Globes in Hollywood.

It was time to confirm the predictions made during the month of December.

Celebrities were able to experience reunions with former co-stars and friends.

This year’s host was Ricky Gervais, this being his fifth year hosting the Golden Globes.

The ceremony started with host Ricky Gervais making fun of hypocrisy among celebrities.

He talked about college scandals, Amazon, Disney, Apple, and even about Jeffrey Epstein’s death.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award is awarded to those who have contributed to entertainment, and this year’s winner was Tom Hanks, who gave an emotional speech.

The Carol Burnett Award, awarded to Ellen DeGeneres, honors distinguished contributions to television.

This year, Netflix movies and TV shows received a lot of nominations.

Joker, Marriage Story, the Irishman, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood lead with the most nominations.

The lack of women being nominated in categories such as Best Director and Best Screenplay was highly criticized.

Not even the scarcity of female nominations stopped women, including Awkwafina and Hildur Guðnadóttir, from winning in Best Original Score and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.

Michelle Williams and Patricia Arquette gave political speeches, encouraging women to vote in the 2020 elections.

Also Ellen DeGeneres and Nicole Kidman spoke about the Australian wildfires, expressing their sadness.

The ceremony started controversially, but at the end all actresses and actors left happy with their nominations and awards.
