Basketball season has started, and the team’s energy is wild!

The Loretto basketball division is made up of a freshman team, junior varsity team, and varsity team.

The month of November was filled with basketball games and tournaments.

Every week features a new event!

Their dedication to the sport does not go unnoticed, and the Loretto family applauds them for that.

On November 14, 15, and 16, Loretto hosted a varsity tournament.

Schools of El Paso such as Ysleta High School, El Dorado High School,  Socorro High School, and many more participated in it and made this an incredible event.

Although the Loretto girls did not win all of their games, they did win their first game, and it was an exhilarating game.

Loretto senior Alejandra Urbina said, “Well, the girls won their first game, which was exciting.

“They each hustled for the ball and worked together as a team to achieve their goals.

“Unfortunately they lost the following games, but they never gave up and continued playing their best.”

Mariacatalina Villarreal, member of the varsity basketball team, said, “We did really good, especially in our game against Socorro, mainly because of the teamwork demonstrated within our team.

“We tied and went to overtime and yet none of the girls gave up; we all played until the end.”

The energy of a crowd is vital for a game.

They can either help a team continue, or they can make them stop trying.

The crowd in this tournament was loud.

Villarreal said, “Many of the games were very close so the energy was tense, yet exciting.”

Never let that energy falter, and keep up that good work!
