Mardi Gras, also called Fat Tuesday, is a carnival celebration the day before Ash Wednesday.

It is a day known for eating everything you can like meat, before lent begins.

The most popular traditions of Mardi Gras are wearing purple, green and gold.

Masks are also a big part of the carnival festivity.

The masks allowed the ones that wore them to escape the society and the class division.

Whenever they wore the mask, the people felt that they could be whomever they wanted to be and could mix with other classes.

Some people just wear the masks to continue the celebration.

In New Orleans, the people get really serious and crazy about their carnivals.
