On February 22, 2019, the NAHS art show took place in the El Convento Ballroom.

The show featured art pieces from Ms. Jensen’s art classes and the honor society.

The girls prepared for the show all week by creating different pieces and assembling them in an eye-catching manner.

The art show replaced the annual Extravaganza where typically NAHS members create artistic handmade dresses and choose their friends to model them.

Secretary of NAHS, Mila Cordero said, “The support that the community has for the Loretto artists is heart warming. We were amazed by the attendance of not only students but other supporters.”

Catherine Carreon, junior, won first place with her sculpture, “I was very shocked when I got first place because I thought I would only receive and honorable mention.”

Her sculpture featured a cage with a bed and a little girl, it questioned the viewers with the question of who was the monster and where did it go.

When creating her master piece, Catherine thought back to her own childhood and tried to illustrate it, she said, “Mrs. Jensen’s assignment was about the head space you often find yourself often.

Going with that I was a very gullible kid and was scared of a lot of things similar to monsters under the bed so I went with that and created a cage with a bed on top of it.”

This event allows for others to see the student’s artistic abilities and share them with the Loretto community.
