Steel Magnolias Production

Jimena Hallal, Reporter for Loretto News and Entertainment

On November 29th through December 1st the Loretto Drama Club put up their winter production of the famously acclaimed movie “Steel Magnolias”.

Before the Production was put on, Ms. Cortez, the head of the Drama department, said, “We have chosen all the actresses to play the part we thought fitted them best”.

This was true, as to all the actresses were amazing and very in tune with their characters.

The characters were played off with the same delight that can be seen in the movie.

Isabella Noe, who played M’Lynn Eatenton, was very realistic in her performance, especially when Shelby Eatenton, acted by Danielle Leyodon, died and Noe had a breakdown scene in the parlor.

The play had a good amount of humor to make sure there was not too much sadness in the play.

Truvy Jones, played by senior Dinorah Mratell, was an especially funny character, complaining about her husband who never seemed to leave the couch.

Mia Guerra, a freshman, very well portrayed Annelle Dupuy’s character, she showed Dupuy’s shyness at the beginning of the play, then quickly shifted to a more confidant and religious version of herself.

The actresses were amazing and the hair, makeup, and costume designs were also true to the movie.

Sofia Alonso, who was in charge of hair and make up made the hairstyles similar to that of 1987.

Good job to all cast and crew members, the play was greatly portrayed and was enjoyed by the Loretto community.
