¡Fiesta Mexicana!

On September 14, 2018, the Spanish Honor Society (SHS) held their first Fiesta Mexicana to raise money and celebrate the Hispanic culture.

SHS is a nationally recognized organization at Loretto that focuses on learning the Spanish language as well as appreciating the rich culture.

Junior Abigail Eduave, member of SHS, said, “I really enjoy SHS because it allows us to learn about and celebrate our culture”.

The event took place on the El Convento courtyard after school, and had multiple activities and booths.

Some of these included Bingo, Aguas Frescas, Enchiladas, plantas for sale, and danza folklorico.

Cassandra Villar, SHS Vice President, said, “Our main goal was not only to make money but to have fun with the Fiesta Mexicana.

Everyone was nervous because it was the first time anyone did anything like this, but in the end I think everyone who went had fun”.

SHS raised a grand total of $670, which they hope to spend on future events for the 2018-2019 school year.

The Fiesta Mexicana was a huge success for the club because every year the goal is to raise at least $1,000.

The Fiesta alone allowed the girls to raise more than half of their goal.

The Spanish Honor Society is looking forward to their upcoming events later in the year and continues to embrace their Hispanic roots and colorful traditions.
