On April 17, 2023, three Loretto students (Jayne Nowak–senior, Emma Isaac–junior, and Ciana Chavez–sophomore) represented Loretto in the TAPPS State Championship in Waco, Texas.

While Nowak played singles, Isaac and Chavez played doubles.

Isaac and Chavez won their first match but lost their second match in the quarterfinals.

Isaac said, “The most memorable part of the season is regionals because we all bonded.

I’ll miss the seniors the most because I’ve played tennis with some of them since we were little and it’s bittersweet to say goodbye.”

Isaac and Chavez have had an amazing season and placed third at regionals.

Chavez said, “I will never forget when Emma served a ball into my head and almost gave me a concussion because that experience strangely brought us closer.

I will miss the late-night drives, laughs, and long talks with Jayne who is one of my best friends, even thoughts sometimes we fight.”

Nowak has been a part of the tennis team since her freshman year and is getting ready to walk off the court for the last time.

Nowak said, “I am so proud of the season Emma and Ciana had and I will be rooting for them next year!

My most memorable moment was when I opened my decision letter to my dream college alongside my two teammates since freshman year, Lillian Fernandez and Georgina Ramirez.

I remember Georgina saying, ‘Looking back you’ll always remember that we were a part of this core memory, ‘ which couldn’t be more true.

Whether it was speaking in accents until 1 am in our hotel rooms or getting annoyed at Ciana’s horrible taste in music, we were united as one.

The Loretto Tennis Team taught me how to take myself less seriously, have fun with my fellow angels, and share lots of laughs.”

Though the tennis team didn’t make it out with a win, the experience and friendships with the girls are wins in themselves.
