The Loretto Academy swim team recently competed at regionals on January 23rd, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in San Antonio.

Regionals were hosted by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, also known as TAPPS.

There were 16 total events, with 4 girls competing in each event.

Events included medley relay, freestyle, individual medley, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and free relay.

13 girls in total competed at regionals.

Before events, the coaches would have to move the swimmers around to see what they’re good at before placing them in their events

Loretto placed 1st for division 1 in the region, with 176 points, and beat Antonian College Preparatory and Incarnate Word.

Loretto junior Carolina Machado said, “We’ve had a tough journey but at regionals, we were able to manage everything and demonstrate how much effort we’ve put in.

I was able to qualify for state in all of my personal events and I’m expecting to achieve personal bests and hoping for my coach to be proud of me.

I can’t wait to go into my last year of swimming and see all the good things I will accomplish.”

State competition will take place on February 8th in San Antonio, and there is no doubt that the team will keep on succeeding.
