Bonjour! During the week of November 7th to November 11th, the French Honor Society of Loretto Academy hosted its traditional French Week.

Students gathered together to celebrate French culture with games and other interactive activities hosted every day of the week.

All of the activities were hosted in Madame Le Thanh’s classroom.

On the first day of French Week, students put their knowledge to the test with a Kahoot game about teachers at Loretto and general French culture.

On the second day, students let go with a dance party, featuring Le Coach by Soprano feat. Vincenzo.

On the third day, there was the opportunity to take a break from exhausting schoolwork by watching Jack and the Cuckoo Clock.

On the fourth day, the games returned with a Just Dance dance party, exclusively with songs in french.

All four activities could be done for a price of $2 per activity, except for the fifth and final day of the week: chocolate tasting.

For a price of $3, students indulged in chocolates from four countries: Germany, the United States, Switzerland, and Italy.

The winning country of the chocolate tasting was Germany, with its delicious arrangement of chocolates like Merci and Kinder Bueno

Loretto sophomore Miranda Alvarado, who attended the chocolate tasting, said,

“All of the chocolates were delicious, and it was amazing to taste so many different types of chocolate.”

But when talking about international chocolate, the chocolate-filled Merci Bucket cannot be forgotten.

Costing $5 each, the Merci Buckets sold out fast, due to teachers from hard subjects giving extra credit to each student who bought one.

Mrs. Urias, Mrs. Hall, Ms. Ray, Ms. Kimpell, and Mr. Sanchez were the teachers who were giving out extra credit for the buckets, all for their respective subjects.

All of the funds gathered from the French Week activities were donated to Les Petites Soeurs de Sainte Thérèse à Haïti, a low-income school based in Haiti.

The classrooms of the little sisters are made out of plastic, or any material that they have available, and classes are held where it is too dangerous for the teachers and students.

The French Honor Society’s goal of $1,000 dollars for the little sisters was surpassed by a great amount.

French Honor Society President Anette Valdes, said, “After the success of French Week this year, I felt proud of all the members of the French Honor Society and the people who made it happen, especially Madame and her drive to push us in teamwork and organization.

I felt so happy and grateful to have the opportunity to conduct different parts of French Week and bring expansion to French Culture to Loretto.

Apart from our personal successes in the French Honor Society, we were able to make our success into a bigger idea, donating proceeds to Les Petits Sœurs De Haïti, where we know our hard efforts will be given to flourish and grow in other parts of communities.”

With a fun-filled week, opportunities for better grades, and delicious chocolate, the French Honor Society did an impressive job of organizing French Week.
