On September 29, Loretto Academy hosted the annual Battle of the Sexes game where Loretto played Cathedral in a best-of-five set volleyball match.

The game gives an opportunity for the two schools to bond and have a friendly competition.

The event is also a fundraiser for the Loretto Athletic Association which conducts all of the campus sports events

This year the game was hosted in the Loretto gym where Cathedral and Loretto sat on opposite sides of the bleachers cheering on their teams.

The game finished in four sets with Loretto taking the win and earning a trophy.

When Loretto won the final point all of their student section ran onto the court and the seniors began to do their senior chant.

Varsity volleyball player and senior at Loretto Academy, Yareli Yu said, “My reaction to Loretto winning was pure excitement.

My first instinct was to run to my team and give them all a big hug.

When we won it was amazing to see how excited all of Loretto was.”

Although Cathedral did not win the game it is safe to say they still had fun.

Cathedral junior Aiden Gomez said, “I think the tradition should continue because it brings the schools together and it is fun.”

The tradition is expected to continue for years to come and both schools are ready to take home next year’s title.
