French III class drew Madame’s portrait as she posed with a beautiful smile. Although her class is behind the screens, her students, as well as herself maintain a positive attitude.

Being a sponsor comes with plenty of dedication, engagement and care, for both the school and the girls at Loretto.

Madame Le Thanh is currently a sponsor for the junior class of 2022, and has been a sponsor for the past 12 years.

The junior sponsors include head sponsor Mrs .Kimpell, Mr. Benero, Mr. Gad, Mr. Chenoweth, and Madame Le Thanh.

As a sponsor, teachers not only get involved in school, but they get to see the girls blossom and develop throughout their four years of high school.

Madame said, “I have to say that this junior class has a level of maturity that is quite impressive.

“When I remember how they would behave as freshmen, I can tell that there is a big difference.

“I believe they should be very proud of what they are accomplishing, and have been accomplishing throughout the pandemic, and I am very proud of them.”

Although the juniors have walked together for almost three years, there are always new students or homeroom arrangements.

This year, with distant learning, has been complicated for Madame to get to know her homeroom students at a closer level.

Madame said, “This year, because we lost more than half our junior sponsor teachers, homerooms were reorganized and as a result I only know two of the students I have in my homeroom

“It is hard for me to get to know the other ones as we haven’t had the chance until last month to have a lot of meetings, and being online makes it even harder.”

Madame always makes sure to have a special connection with her students.

Such as creating space for her students to learn, adapt, and have fun inside and outside her classroom.

Junior Belycia Rivas said, “I believe the student-teacher relationship Madame has with all of us has helped in the best way possible.

“I’ve never felt intimidated or scared to ask her a question after class; nor have I hesitated to participate in class out of fear or uncertainty of the material, and I can say with confidence that Madame really cares about her students both inside and outside of school.”

Madame not only enjoys teaching French as she leaves remarkable lessons on her students’ hearts, but she also enjoys spending time outdoors!

“This is one of the reasons why I prefer to live in El Paso than in Paris! The weather is so much nicer! So, each time I get a chance, I put on my running shoes and go to the mountains for a run.

“This is where I can clear up my mind and often come up with fun lesson plans!”, said Madame.

In spite of distance-learning being an obstacle, the girls along with their sponsors have had a chance to make their sisterhood flourish.

Madame is quite an inspiration, and she will continue to have an impact on both her homeroom, and French students.
