On November 2, 2020, the Loretto Cross Country team attended State in Temple, Texas.

Only six Loretto runners were able to attend the event; these girls include Britney Martinez, Mariah Martinez, Maria Hobbs, Amanda Torres, Ainslie Stewart, and Andrea Baeza.

Because of the lowered amount of runners, it put more pressure on the girls to do their best.

“My experience was great! The team and I scored 12th place in our division. COVID set limitations and mind blocks for some runners but, we all got through it together and I am very happy with the outcome of my team.” said varsity runner, junior, Mariah Martinez.

Depending on the district, teams were scheduled a specific running time, meaning there were fewer runners in a race.

Social distancing and mask policy was enforced because it was such a large event but very difficult to manage throughout the course.

Senior varsity runner Maria Hobbs said “State was different this year because we ran at a different course and there were so many more rules, but I still had a good time though. As a senior, I was looking forward to my last year on the team and being able to have a good time with my friends, but it was hard to do that with most of the city being closed.”

Though State was not the same this year, the girls still made the best of it and worked just as hard to make their teammates proud.
