On March 3, 2019, Loretto Academy students, Nizi Narez, Melissa Hidalgo and Anneliese Gil, went to New York City to attend a United Nations convention!

The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization that promotes peace and security for all nations across the world by solving social issues in to be in union.

The UN is located in New York City, New York where Loretto students visited to talk about the issues we face today pertaining to climate change, equal pay, and immigration.

Gil said, “The purpose of the UN was to create awareness within us of what’s happening in the world and help gender equality as well as to bring awareness.”

Gil represented El Paso, Texas as a panel to discuss the issues that pertain to her city, which in this case is immigration.

She said, “Because I was a panel for them, it makes me think that’s what I want to do when I grow up. I want to be one of those women in platform as well as help immigration.”

Right she is, as Gil and her fellow classmates came back to their home full of strong, independent women at Loretto Academy.

These powerful women came back to Loretto with their intellect from the UN and have brought back awareness for immigration and equality amongst women and men.

Loretto girls are strong, independent women that can handle anything they set their minds to.
