Spring health routine

Sofia Cadena, Sports Reporter

Winter is slowly coming to an end which means saying goodbye to the short, lazy days.

Spring is the perfect time to get back into schedule and begin working out again.

To be able to have a healthy spring, make sure to follow these helpful steps:

  1. Buy a new workout outfit or new shoes to feel inspired.

Although this is not a necessary step in the routine, this may motivate

you to keep working out.

Dr. Jonathan Fader, is a sport psychologist for the New York Mets says, “When you put on new fitness gear, you begin to get into character like an actor putting on a costume for a performance.”

  1. Choose the right music for your workouts to get out of a winter funk. Try to opt for new music to inspire you.
  2. Stretching is extremely important. It can help you keep joint motion and reduce tension in the muscles.
  3. Drink water. This can help prevent fatigue and muscle cramping. Drink more liquids after an extraneous workout because if you sweat a lot, the more liquids you are losing. Use a recyclable water, most preferably glass or steel to prevent BPA and other harmful chemicals.
  4. Work with a friend for motivation and having someone to talk to while working out.
  5. Eat a good diet that consists of fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, fish, etc.
  6. Stay positive. Do not expect results right away, maintain a good balance between working out and rewarding yourself. Try “fun workouts” such as yoga.
  7. Try hiking at El Paso’s own Franklin Mountains or various other trails.
  8. Eat local and try The Green Ingredient, located on the west side at 3902 Dew Dr.
