UTEP women’s basketball has had a rough start to this new season.

The team has lost five consecutive games and has only won the first two games of the season.

Their most heartbreaking game was against Abilene Christian University on Saturday November 24, when they lost 70-69.

In an interview with the El Paso Times, head coach Kevin Baker said, “We really deserved to win the game.

Sometimes basketball doesn’t go that way, sometimes the ball bounces funny, sometimes you get called for a travel on an inbounds pass where they know you are going to foul you.”

His comments match the fact that Ariona Gill, forward, missed a pass from Jordan Jenkins, guard.

Gill attempted to make a three-point basket but missed.

Baker and the team remain positive throughout the remainder of the season.

They hope to improve their scores in future games that last until March 7, 2019.

Their next game will take place on December 5 against the New Mexico Lobos.

The men’s basketball team has also suffered during this season with the fact that they have only won three out of the seven games that they have played.

Their most recent game was against the Northwestern State Demons which they won 47-77.

The star players of the December 1 game where Nigel Hawkins, guard, and Jordan Lathon, guard, who each scored sixteen points for the Miners.

The Northwestern Demons tried to catch up to the score but no one was able to make double digit scoring.

The Miners will face off against the Marquette Golden Eagles on December 4.
