SHOUT week, or Students Helping Out, is one of Loretto Academy’s most influential traditions not only within our own community, but to many others in different parts of the world.

The week is dedicated to raising money for some sort of nonprofit group or organization every year, decided by student council leadership, Christina Urrea, Ava Moreno, and Anna Gonzalez.

Every day, there are multiple activities all with the goal of raising as much money as possible.

In previous years, there have been bake sales, movie showings to students who pay, and dollar song requests.

However this year, the activities every day of the week are extremely unique.

Here is what the week looked like at a glance:

Monday

  • Students wear any sweater or hoodie of your choice for $2!
  • Root beer float sale at lunch for $2 each.

Tuesday

  • Pajama day! $5 to participate.
  • Each class period could see a movie playing in the Little Theatre if the class collectively raises $30.

Wednesday

  • Students wear any shoes and socks for $2.
  • Students could spend 10 minutes with a therapy dog for $3 any time throughout the day.
  • Teachers auction off a major prize for the class period that raises the most money!

Thursday

  • Loretto and Cathedral compete in a Battle of the Sexes to see who can raise the most money in one school day.
  • A Blood Drive was held all day!
  • Chamoyada

Friday

  • High school Assembly

The assembly consisted of multiple activities like Tic Tac Toe relay, miniature car races, and dance competitions.

There, NHS president Andrea Hernandez and — led the assembly, and announced how much Loretto raised in total.

President Christina Urrea, Vice President Ava Moreno, and secretary Anna Gonzalez of the student body organized the entire week, coming up with some incredibly unique fundraisers.

Something never done before at Loretto was the therapy dog time on Wednesday, and it ended up being a huge hit.

“I wanted the girls to have something that genuinely benefited them.

The whole week is about charity, so I wanted to give back to all the girls who are giving towards our cause”

The girls’ creativity truly was worth it after Loretto Academy raised a total of over $10,000.

Student council leadership searched for the perfect organization to donate to, and eventually decided on Charity: Water.

The non-profit organization works to bring clean and safe drinking water to developing countries.

Ava Moreno, student body vice president, said, “In relation to our Loretto value of community, we researched different non-profit organizations that focused on community building”

Loretto’s core values of faith, community, justice, and respect were perfectly emulated throughout the week, and we can’t wait to see what next year’s SHOUT week will hold.
