On October 24, Loretto Academy’s Varsity volleyball team held their annual senior night, helping say goodbye to seniors Lauren Domengeaux and Yvette Gomez.
After three months of waking up early to make it in time for 5:45 a.m. practices, the varsity team had one last game to win for their seniors.
A game of three sets against the Jesus Chapel Chargers, Loretto Angels came out with a victory, with a final score of 25-20.
Varsity captain, Lauren Domengeaux said, “I think it hit me really late, once they started the speeches, that I would never be in the same situation that I was in; I would never change with these girls again, win with them, or lose with them, I’ll never have those moments with them again.”
After the game, a ceremony was held for the girls which included a walk down the court with the seniors and their parents.
There were speeches from Athletic Director Mr. Nieto, Varsity co-captain Alyssa Robledo, JV member Precious Pieri, and Freshman captain Catherine Domengeaux.
Loretto Academy’s head coach, Coach Amy Murphy announced she would be retiring and focusing on her daughter, helping her grow in her volleyball skills.
Yvette Gomez said, “I was honestly nervous because of it being my last game but also excited because it’s my last one and at the end I was joyful because my team and Lauren’s and my mom made the night so special; I was crying tears of happiness to end on a good note.”
The two seniors were given gifts from the varsity, JV, and freshman teams, as the members said goodbye to the season with
tears streaming down their faces.
Lauren Domengeaux said, “My favorite part of this year was being captain because it was finally my time to lead the team and it was
an honor to be the person not just to yell at them, but be the person my team looked up to in the tough moments.
I hope they will never forget how much I loved playing and growing with them during this dramatic, yet memorable season.”
A night held with heartwarming speeches and thoughtful goodbyes, the last game of the season came to an end with an unforgettable senior night.
