On October 15, 2024, the long-awaited inauguration of the elevator and renovation of the foyer made a significant milestone in the Loretto Academy community.
The foyer was renamed “The Ginger Francis Grand Foyer” as a symbol of appreciation for the unwavering support of the Francis family towards the elevator project.
This project enhances accessibility for all students and reflects Loretto Academy’s commitment to inclusivity; the inauguration featured heartfelt speeches, student performances, and a strong sense of community spirit.
Fr. Ken kicked off the inauguration by saying a whole-hearted prayer dedicated to Loretto Academy as a united community.
Mrs. Cobb, Loretto Academy president, shared some sincere welcoming words after the prayer; she said, “Today we celebrate the generosity of both Ginger and Rick, as well as the lasting impact they’ve made on our school.”
She demonstrated great appreciation and said, “In 2022, The Ginger G. and L. Frederick Francis Foundation generously pledged a one million dollar gift to Loretto and thanks to their incredible support we were able to construct an elevator that now provides access to all five floors of our historic 101 year old main building.”
She said, “The elevator makes our building more accessible to those with mobility challenges and represents an important commitment to inclusivity on campus.”
Mrs. Francis, a proud Class of ‘75 Loretto Alumna, delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on her experiences as a student.
She reminisced about her days at Loretto Academy and shared many memories including the story of how she injured her ankle once and faced the challenges of navigating the school without an elevator.
Mrs. Francis said, “Generations of women have graced this foyer, learning skills to make them successful in their lives, it has always been the heart of our beloved Loretto, and now it has a beautiful new look while incorporating all the history that has been in these hallowed halls.”
The celebration included enthusiastic participation from students and the Loretto Academy cheerleaders, who created a more spirited atmosphere.
The new elevator represents a crucial step toward modernizing Loretto Academy while maintaining its traditional roots.
The elevator ensures all students, regardless of physical difficulties, can access classrooms and actively participate in them.
Highlighting the spirit of sisterhood, Mrs. Francis noted that leaving a mark on the school for future generations was key to Loretto Academy’s mission.
Brianna Farrish, student body president said, “Loretto is a place for bright young women who are ready for their future, ready to make a difference in the world.”
Melania Martinez, senior class president, presented a heartfelt gift to Mrs. Francis as a sign of gratitude for her family’s generous donation; which not only funded the elevator project, but also contributed to making Loretto Academy a better school for all students.
Many students involved in school organizations were able to participate in the inauguration.
The Loretto Academy choir shared a small performance of the Loretto alma mater which showcased their hard work and dedication.
The cheerleaders waved their yellow, black, and white pom-poms to maintain the spirit of celebration throughout the inauguration.
