As Loretto’s thespians wrapped up the school year, Angels in Wings Theater Company put on the production of Grease (The School Version) for their annual spring musical that was showcased on April 18, 19, and 20, in 2024.
This presentation came full circle for Theater Director Mrs. Cortez who directed the production of Grease at Loretto in 2011, as well as Theater Director Ms. Guerra who played the role of Sandy that year.
Mrs. Cortez said, “I told myself I was doing Grease one last time before I retired, and Ms. Guerra and I agreed and felt that it was the right time.”
With news of this, Theater members started preparing, and interested actors auditioned for their dream roles for many had to fill the shoes of some of the most iconic characters in musical history.
Several of our Loretto juniors and seniors, including Clara Ramirez (Sandy), Sofia Escobar (Rizzo), Ana Delgado (Marty), Abigail Silvas (Frenchie), Rebeca Perez-Gonzalez (Jan), Leila Morales (Cha Cha, night 1), Andrea Gomez (Cha Cha night 2 and day 3), Yvette Gomez (Patty), and Isela Iglesias (Principal McGee), were cast for these roles along with the actresses from the ensemble.
Directors, actors, and crew members spent months preparing for the showing of the play for people in the Loretto community to enjoy.
Abigail Silvas, Loretto senior who played the role of Frenchie said, “Doing Grease was fun, stressful, memorable, and it required a lot of effort and work.
As my final production at Loretto, my biggest takeaway was to appreciate the people that we have now in our lives, and that it’s okay to step outside of your comfort zone.
It was super fun and I enjoyed myself.”
Clara Ramirez, Loretto Junior who played Sandy and recipient of the 2024 Helen Sanders Award said, “I had the honor of playing Sandy in Grease, and I felt really connected to the class before me and how their production went as I was motivated to do just as well as they did.
It was very stressful, but in the end, it was completely worth it.
I wouldn’t change a thing about the time I spent as a cast member in Grease.”
Loretto’s production of Grease impressed its audiences, and many are excited to see how Angel in the Wings Theater Company will continue to impress with their productions for years to come.
