Ring Rose has been a long respected tradition in Loretto Academy as it shows the strong bond between juniors and seniors.
This 50 year old tradition was held in the Hilton-Young Hall gym on Friday, April 12th.
During this ceremony, a junior and senior exchange a graduation ring and a rose, symbolizing how juniors are ready to transition into their last year of high school.
Junior president Brianna Farrish and junior vice-president Melania Martinez started off the speeches which resonated with this year’s juniors and seniors.
Senior president Mia Montelongo and senior vice-president Isabella Herrera gave speeches which left this year’s seniors bittersweet about graduating.
Apart from the exchange of rings and roses, this year’s Helen Sanders Award was also given out to junior Clara Ramirez.
Helen Sanders Award
The Helen Sanders Award is given to a junior who embodies Loretto’s four core values.
Clara Ramirez lived out faith, community, justice, and respect as she contributed to Loretto’s fine art programs.
Ramirez is greatly involved in the Angels in the Wings Theatre Company and choir program.
Ramirez said, “I was hoping for it, but I was not fully certain that I would get it.
I knew my ring rose big sister had received this award the year prior and I thought it would be really sweet if we both had won the award.
It also made me a little nervous during the start of the ceremony because I had no idea when they would announce it, but I was so happy to have been called out.
I’m so grateful for all the teachers who recommended me for the award and everyone else who helped me achieve it.”
Ring Rose is held in the hearts of most Loretto students and alumni because it not only promotes the strong bond the sisterhood builds, but because it awards passionate students who should not go unnoticed.
