Loretto students, family, and friends all suited up for the 13th annual Nun Run on Saturday, March 9.
The Nun Run is a project launched to raise money for the sisters of Loretto in Pakistan.
This year there were 114 runners with $5,000 raised for our sister school.
It is also a service learning project for the seniors that helps promote community outreach and friendly competition.
The t-shirts were tie-dye blue and the sophomore class got their special purple shirts for being the class with the most participants.
Senior class vice-president, Bella Herrera said “My favorite part of the Nun Run was being able to cheer on all the people that were participating, it allowed me to see the effort and enthusiasm that they had to continue the race.
As a class I feel like although many of us had to put in extra time, we were willing to put effort in with each other and allow others to have a great Nun Run!”
Seniors helped with all aspects of the race from recruiting runners, getting the snack bags ready, being on campus bright and early to set up for this occasion, setting up the cafeteria, registration in the gym and finally being there to cheer on runners throughout the race.
Winning overall first place male was 22-year-old Juan Angel Olmos crossing the finish line at 19:49.
Not far behind was 13-year-old Anaya Le Thanh at 26:39, winning first overall female.
15th overall place and Cathedral senior Marco Rodriguez said, “ Running is one of my favorite hobbies and the Nun Run was a great way to have fun while having a friendly competition.
I would definitely do it again for the fun of it.”
The Nun Run is always a fun loretto tradition that gets everyone out of their comfort zones and brings the community together.
For the class of 2024, the Nun Run was an unforgettable experience that taught them about the impact of their work in our community and the broader Loretto community at our sister school in Pakistan.
