Swim season
Water and Loretto Academy sure know how to mix, many years won of regionals and state are proof.
As the Loretto swim team prepared to head off to regionals on January 29, 2024 at San Antonio, Texas, their training started to intensify.
As swimming captain, Isela Iglesias, a senior at Loretto said, ‘‘In preparation for Regionals we’re tapering, which is lowering the distance in the pool and exerting ourselves more in the shorter distance.’’
The swimming team trains at a 25 meters long pool, where they swim 4,000 meters in a normal practice, Iglesias, said, ‘‘but with tapering we lower our distance and sprint in the shorter distances to get our bodies competition ready.’’
The swimming team consists of Seniors: Isela Iglesias and Caroline Machado.

Sophomores: Goly Enriquez, Aubrey Reha, Valeria Arrellano, Sofia Olvera, and Marianna Ortega.

2024 TAPPS Regionals
Loretto Angels came back to El Paso with a trophy.
When asked about her time in San Antonio at regionals Junior, Sofia Landin, said, ‘‘I would describe my regionals experience as team bonding.
From the swimming at the regional meet to having dinner with the team, everyone was laughing and smiling and having fun.
Loretto had some of the most school spirit there at the competition and I would attest that to our love for each other.’’
Junior, Taisette Quiroz, said, ‘‘Going to regionals with the team was a great opportunity to bond with each other.
We were able to show the dedication we have of waking up early in the morning to practice when giving our best in the events.
We are all very happy with the results given at regionals and are ready to finish the season with state!’’
The swimming team won first place on TAPPS Swimming Regionals, and they now prepare to swim to state competition.
