Loretto’s varsity soccer team has been kickin’ it this season.
Coach Nieto and Assistant Coach Maxwell have been training 28 girls to compete this season.
The girls practice four times a week after school from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Captain Sophia Merjil and Co-Captain Rebeca Legarreta have been working together to strengthen the bond of the team.
Legarreta said, “We like to do team activities with the girls, and be there for them whenever they need us on the field and outside the field.”
The team has been practicing since October and has played two tournaments so far.
In the Clint and Loretto showcase, the girls won two out of the three games and placed fifth.
In the Montwook tournament, they won one game and lost the other.
The team holds a record of four wins, two losses, and one tie.
Merjil said, “The performance has improved since last season, we have been able to compete with large schools like Montwood.
Individually we have all improved, especially bonded together on the field and off the field.”
As the season continues, the team will play more matches, and hopefully keep up with the wins!
Coach Nieto said, “We are looking forward to the playoffs, it is the first time that Loretto has made the playoffs in the school’s history.
We would be playing an East Texas team, so it’s the first time that we would get to travel as well.”
The coach is optimistic about the team’s performance when the playoffs start on February 23!
