The 2023-2024 school year presented Loretto with a plethora of new teachers in addition to counselor, Ms. Oaxaca, who all have contributed to the learning of students across all grade levels.
The new teachers this year include Mr. Dentinger, Maestra Urias-Lopez, Ms. Valverde, Sister, and Mrs. Zermeño.
These teachers gave insight into what their experience at Loretto has been like and what they enjoy about it.
Dentinger joined Loretto for the second semester, and the classes he teaches include U.S. Government (Regular and AP), Economics, and Debate.
Mr. Dentinger said, “The atmosphere here is reflective of the motivation each student has.
It’s nice being exposed to the classroom setting again and seeing the positive aspects that shape a school.
I hope my students leave my classroom having benefitted from my class and apply what they learn.”
Ms. Valverde is a teacher who became a part of the math department earlier this school year, and she teaches Algebra I, Algebra II, and their corresponding honors classes.
Ms. Valverde said, “At first it was challenging getting used to a new classroom and a new set of students, but I love it here!
I look forward to seeing my students adjust and teaching them more things.”
Maestra Urias-Lopez is another teacher who joined Loretto’s team of teachers at the start of the school year, and she teaches AP Spanish Literature and Culture, Spanish I, Spanish II, and their corresponding classes for native speakers.
Maestra Urias-Lopez said, “ I love getting to know my students and seeing their dedication to the course.
I hope as time goes on, all my students can gain a better sense of confidence with the language and get more comfortable with the material presented.
I also hope that my AP students have success with their exams!”
Along with these teachers, Sister has also joined the Loretto family of teachers and filled the role of teacher for the Theology I and Theology IV classes.
Sister said, “I like teaching students about God, and it makes me happy when they share what they’ve learned in class.
I’ve seen growth here and I enjoy Loretto because it gives students an outlet to learn about their faith.
I’m excited about seeing more students creating personal relationships with God, throughout the rest of the year.”
Finally, Mrs. Zermeño is a part of the science department teaching the Biology class for incoming freshmen.
Mrs. Zermeño said, “Loretto is a very warm and welcoming community and I’ve enjoyed bringing my expertise to students.
I’m proud to see girls being enlightened by the field of biology every class.
This semester I look forward to seeing the students’ creativity and enthusiasm come to life while working in groups.”
With these new additions to the history, math, foreign language, religion, and science departments, learning at Loretto continues to shape Angels across all fields of education.
