The generations of Loretto joined together to participate in a series of activities designed to help build a better sense of sisterhood across the campus in an event called “We are Family”.
Students from each grade level, freshman through senior, were randomly assigned to groups facilitated by assorted teachers that allowed for everyone to be exposed to different people.
The event commenced with a few icebreakers, such as “What is one negative/positive thing that has happened to you today,” “Explain a scar you have,” and several other conversation starters.
Following this portion, students participated in arts and crafts mini-projects to supplement the icebreakers.
Angels were provided materials to create friendship bracelets and crowns, and many of them gave the crafts they made to another person in their group.
This allowed each girl to have a piece of their newly found sister with them all while having the opportunity to get to know them in the process.
A few girls from each grade level shared their experience with the event and what they enjoyed about it.
Freshman, Ella Nuñez said, “Overall it was a nice experience and it’s always nice to expand your circle of friends, especially with people you go to school with to gain familiarity.”
Sophomore, Esmeralda Esparza said, “I really liked how we were able to bond with one another and meet new people to build our sense of sisterhood.”
Junior, Daniela Barraza said, “It thought it was fun getting to know girls from other grade levels, and I had a nice time bonding with them over school and things of that nature.”
Senior, Triniti Griffin said, “I liked meeting new people from different grade levels and I realized that I had more connections to people than I thought.”
“We are Family” made an impression on both students and teachers, and it will continue to be a connecting tradition for future generations of Loretto.
