Loretto’s volleyball season is one for the record books as the freshman, JV, and varsity teams represented Loretto on the court in a season spanning from August to October playing tournaments and games all across town.
The freshman team showed tons of energy to not only cheer during their games but to cheer for their big sisters during their games.
Their final record was 23 wins and 3 losses.
Camila Macias, freshman said “Loretto volleyball holds a special place in my heart.
Whether it’s on or off the court we encouraged each other and became like a second family.”
JV ended up winning 22 games and losing 6 games, they are a team full of girls who put in the work to communicate and hustle together.
Freshman and JV player Naileah Murillo said “Volleyball helped me get a head start in getting to know girls not just from freshman but from all grade levels.
It’s helped me adapt so much easier, I’m so grateful to have this experience with my girls”
The varsity team had a tough season winning 14 out of 27 games.
Their bond is unmatched as most of the girls play their final season.
Varsity captain, Valeria Portillo said “This season, the highs and lows made us closer together as a team and as friends.
The highs are what grew not just my friendship with them but also my love for the sport.
Being able to bond together before and after games and going through those tough practices and suffering together.
But also building that bond with our coaches and friends will forever leave a mark in our lives.
The lows were hard to get through, but we worked together to calm our frustration and bring back our confidence in each other and ourselves.
It helped us find ourselves and made us mentally stronger.”
On October 24, the seniors had the last game of their volleyball careers at Loretto.
Winning against Riverside High School, they put up a fight and showed that they were a team we were going to miss.
On senior night Coaches, teammates, and friends made speeches dedicated to the seniors in a ceremony after the game.
Seniors were gifted baskets from one of their friends on freshman and JV teams while speeches were made to honor them.
This volleyball season had its highs and lows and that is why it is one we will never forget.
