Spirit week, one of Loretto’s most prominent and exciting traditions, showcases the spirit of Loretto’s angels, and this year was no different.
All the themes and competitions revved up students for the biggest class competition of the year: Field Day.
To begin the momentous week, angels started with the theme “Man Crush Monday”.
Freshmen dressed up as Justin Bieber, sophomores as athletes, juniors as frat boys, and seniors as Cathedral boys.
Seniors won for the class percentage, and sophomore, Karla Gallardo, won individually for her muscular ensemble.
The next theme on the line was “Tunes Tuesday,” a theme that encouraged all angels to emulate the artists from their assigned genre.
Freshmen were country artists, sophomores were rappers, juniors were pop artists, and seniors were 70’s disco artists.
Juniors took the trophy for this theme and junior, Maraih Escobar, won for her Britney Spears costume.
Continuing, “Walt Disney Wednesday” was the next magical theme, and Loretto became a place “where dreams come true”.
Freshmen had fun as “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” characters, sophomores frightened as villains, juniors spread their wings as “Tinker Bell and Friends,” and seniors captivated as Disney princesses.
Class winner for this day was sophomores, and senior, Barbara Urias, won with her enchanting princess dress.
To end the themes, angels took it back with “Throwback Thursday.”
Freshmen dressed as VSCO girls, sophomores as Tumbler girls, juniors’ theme was quarantine, and seniors’ was childhood.
Class winner for this day was the seniors, and Julianna Gonzalez won for her Hannah Montana recreation.
Angels finally made it to Field Day, a day in which all classes prepare and fight to show what they are made of.
Early in the morning, students were seen setting up their walls in the gym, which showcased a beautiful display of pink, purple, green, and yellow, Loretto’s iconic class colors.
From early on, these angels demonstrated their spirit, to commence a day full of battles, winners, dancing, and memories.
After deliberation from the planners of Field Day, Loretto Academic Association, the winners of the day were announced.
“For the best wall, we have the sophomores!”
“…and the winners of Field Day are the seniors!”
No matter the outcome, students and faculty can all agree that Field Day ‘23 was a success, and the perfect ending to an eventful Spirit Week.
