Love is in the air with Valentine’s Day fast approaching, but unfortunately, a great number of people don’t have a significant other to celebrate the holiday with and instead resort to watching romance movies during the day.

With that said, here are my top picks for movies that will make you feel single and fill your heart at the same time this Valentine’s Day.

  1. The Notebook

The show-stopping motion picture adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name follows the bittersweet relationship of wealthy Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) and mill worker Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) as they overcome their differences in class.

Though the story ends on a sour note, it still leaves a lovey-dovey impression on you, as it showcases a love that overcame all trials and tribulations.

  1. Me Before You

Yet another motion picture film based on a book, Me Before You, was written by Jojo Moyes.

Louisa (Emilia Clarke) just became the caretaker of a paralyzed, wealthy man named Will (Sam Claflin), who is battling with his mental health, and Louisa becomes determined to convince Will that life is worth living.

Though the movie similarly ends on a sour note, its motto is that oftentimes you find love where you least expect it.

  1. How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days

This classic, early-2000s romantic comedy follows Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson), a journalist who is writing an article on how to drive a guy away in 10 days, and Benjamin Barry, an ad executive who bets he can make a woman fall for him in 10 days.

It’s the perfect movie to watch this Valentine’s Day as you enjoy authentic comedy and a movie that is unlike anything produced in today’s movie industry.

  1. Pride and Prejudice

The iconic story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy is adapted from the novel written by Jane Austen and released in 1813.

Elizabeth Bennet needs to marry into a wealthy family in order to save their humble country home from being inherited by a distant cousin, and she meets Fitzwilliam Darcy who she immediately dislikes.

The movie follows their turbulent relationship as it develops from hatred to love; a classic enemies-to-lovers trope that has inspired many modern novels.

The highs and lows of their relationship are what makes them such a captivating couple, and the authentic passion of their love gives it a touch of personality not often found in modern literature.

  • 10 Things I Hate About You

Based on William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, the movie is centered around Kat (Julia Stiles), a shrewish girl who doesn’t attract many boys, and Patrick (Heath Ledger), an outcast who is paid to date Kat by Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who is in love with Kat’s sister, Bianca (Larisa Oleynik).

According to house rules, Bianca can’t date until Kat has a boyfriend. The movie follows the main characters’ interactions as they fall for each other with a taste of hidden betrayal.

Charismatic, charming, and classic. 10 Things I Hate About You is a top pick that will make you feel totally single this Valentine’s Day.

Ranging from teen romance to tragic stories, Love is not in the air, but in the screen, these 5 movies will take you through interesting stories with entertaining characters, and will help in enjoying Valentine’s Day even without a significant other.
