Fans return to Southwest University Park
March 12, 2021
The El Paso Chihuahuas will start up their 2021 baseball season on April 8th, coming back as their 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic.
MountainStar Sports Group Senior Vice President and Chihuahuas General Manager, Brad Taylor said, “Seeing this schedule renews the excitement for everyone from fans to team members to the front office and game day staff that baseball and the Chihuahuas will be back at Southwest University Park in 2021.”
Their first home game will be on April 22 against the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
There are 72 away games and 70 home games as a part of the 142-game schedule that the El Paso Chihuahuas will play.
Southwest University Park plans to allow limited fans for home games.
The park has safely allowed 1500 to 1800 people into the stadium in the last year in a safe and social distance fashion.
Brad Taylor said, “All of us are thrilled to get back to what we love!”
They have practiced with graduations in other events in the park to allow for people to attend baseball games in a safe and Covid free form.
A former employee of Southwest University Park, Saralie Buendia said, “I actually worked a game for them in August during the pandemic and I thought it wasn’t a smart idea.
Buendia, said, “As I was ushering, many took off their mask and didn’t care even when I reminded them to keep it on; people are antsy to go out but they don’t think about the risks that come with it.”
Season seat memberships are open, for more information visit the Chihuahuas website.
