Elitist ideologies decimate American livelihoods
November 2, 2020
Since March 2020, the world has been battling a lethal pandemic that has claimed the lives of over one million people, meanwhile the US struggles to keep the title of a world power.
Over 228,000 people have fallen victim to a pandemic and poor leadership in the US, as cases rise in states, so do cases in the White House.
As first responders expose themselves to a deadly virus and witness people die everyday, the Trump administration flaunts their incompetence as several White House officials, including the President and First lady, test positive for COVID-19.
I think the worst part is that while the President receives top-tier treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center at the expense of the taxpayers’ dollar, those same taxpayers don’t have access to that kind of medicine.
The president may attack the idea of “socialized medicine” but obviously has no issue praising it when it is wasted saving his life while he flaunts his egotistical agenda to dying Americans.
With the struggle to find simple ventilators and PPE for patients and medical responders, I question the legitimacy of an administration who refuses to provide Americans with equipment that is crucial to their survival and safety.
Not only do I disagree with almost every action taken by the president, but I am left with burden that I have to pick up the pieces of a country in shambles from a virus that was easily containable under the right leadership, and because of that failed leadership, innocent Americans are dying.
My generation didn’t choose to be involved in politics, we wanted to live the “normal teen” life but were forced to intervene when a group of mainly white males couldn’t handle a pandemic of both incessant racism and of COVID-19.
I now take to the streets at any chance I get, hoping to be the face of the future where prosperity is easily attainable and struggles to access universal medicine don’t exist.
Surviving virus patients cannot afford and have access to medicines such as REGN-COV2, an antibiotic cocktail that was administered to the President despite ongoing trials and not yet being available to the public.
This kind of access to medicine while Americans struggle to afford medical bills shows the elitist mentality the president and his close circle has- as they have free access to the best medicines, Americans die every hour because of this elitist group’s ignorance, failing to give citizens a fighting chance.
The President and his administration have chosen to sacrifice the lives of Americans to bolster his ego and achieve an unattainable economy that is supported by the very workers he’s killing.
Although I may be young, I am not oblivious to my surroundings, I see the constant failings of this administration around me every day.
Some might say I don’t belong in politics because of my age, but I will make sure I am represented by someone who is cognizant of lower-class citizens’ issues and does not turn a blind eye to those who are on deathbeds.
My only solution to this is to vote, vote for someone who won’t represent the top one percent, but will be there for the remaining 99 percent, guaranteeing them healthcare by believing in science and informing the public.
We’ve let this destructive administration go on for too long, I simply don’t think the US can handle another four years, it’s time to let Americans flourish again.
