Every year, four sophomores are selected to visit the Loretto Motherhouse in Kentucky to represent El Paso by doing service learning with the Sisters of Loretto.

Sister Buffy interviews and decides who are the perfect students to attend on behalf of the whole sophomore class.

She gives them the opportunity to participate in an unforgettable experience.

Then sophomores Anamarie Cordova, Celeste Hirschi, Kaitlyn Horn, and Iliana Moreno were selected this year to participate this past summer.

The students helped the Sisters of Loretto living there and participated in service learning activities.

They spent the week working alongside girls from Loretto’s sister schools: St. Mary’s Academy and Nerinx Hall.

Now junior Kaitlyn Horn said, “I felt so welcomed by all sisters and created so many new friendships.

“It felt as if you were almost family because of how happy the sisters were to talk to you and wanted to know everything about you.”

The Loretto Motherhouse encourages attendees to learn about Loretto’s history and customs.

The week ended and the girls were sad to say goodbye.

It is an experience that will remain in the participants’ hearts for life.
