Water bottles at Loretto

Jimena Hallal, Reporter

At Loretto, it is rare to see plastic water bottles in the halls and classrooms because of the damage they cause to the environment and cost when they should be free because water is a gift from God.

They were banned by Sister Buffy, the president of the high school at Loretto.

On February 12th, near the end of the day it was announced to the whole school that if a pack of water bottles was turned into the foyer then the student who turned them in would be able to get free dress on Thursday, February 14th.

Later that night, texts were sent to the parents of Loretto students in order to accumulate as many water bottles as possible.

The foyer was filled with many packs of water bottles that were all meant for the Annunciation House in El Paso.

The Annunciation House is a safehouse for all the immigrants who seek asylum in different places of El Paso. They have various houses where immigrants can eat and sleep while they hear news about their process for asylum.

The water drive continued on to February 14th and the students were still rewarded with free dress.

At the end of the day Loretto students collected over 180 cases of water bottles.

For the first time in many years water bottles had taken place in the Loretto halls but this time for a good reason.
