Ash Wednesday
March 3, 2019
On March 6, 2019, Loretto will be having the traditional Ash Wednesday Mass at the gym.
During Ash Wednesday, the faithful have their foreheads marked with ash in the Church.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of lent, which is a period of 40 days of fasting and abstinence.
In the Old Testament, ash is used as a symbol of humility and morality.
The cross marked on the forehead while putting ash, is the imitation of the spiritual mark that is put in a Christian during Baptism.
At Loretto we have an all academy mass, at which all class sections, parents, and staff attend.
During lent we are called to strengthen our relationship with God, while preparing for the celebrations of Easter.
Christians respond to Jesus Christ’s sacrifice in the desert for 40 days.
