Junior poinsettias
December 17, 2018
Each year it is a tradition that the junior class of Loretto Academy are assigned the duty of selling potted poinsettia plants during the holiday season.
The beloved plants are particularly known for its use in Christmas floral displays.
Juniors go around their neighborhoods, ask their families, and even chase after the teachers asking if they would like to buy a plant this holiday season to raise money for their Loretto junior project.
Mr. Sanchez, the science teacher at Loretto Academy, bought at least ten poinsettias from the previous junior class last year.
It is the duty of the juniors to conduct whatever sales and fundraisers necessary each year to raise enough money to pay for one of the biggest junior projects of the year: prom.
This year’s junior sponsors, Mrs. Cortez, Mrs. Melby, Mr. Cuellar, Mrs. Lockhart, and Mrs. Hall, all oversee and manage the sale of the poinsettias.
Each pot of poinsettias cost $12, and each junior must sell 12 pots, totaling $144 raised by each junior.
Loretto Academy junior Victoria Dubois said “It was a great experience because my parents made me sell it without their help.
It was hard but I was able to sell them all and it is for a good cause: the prom we are organizing.”
All poinsettia pots must be sold by the juniors by December 14, the Friday before finals week.
