Junior and sophomore coat drive
December 17, 2018
This year Loretto Academy’s juniors and sophomores gathered together and participated in a coat drive from November 19 to 30.
The coat drive, originally named “Brazos de Algodon”, was created by an organization that was founded in Ciudad Juarez by Anatole Quiroz, a relative of a current Loretto student.
The purpose is to collect as many jackets and blankets they could within 32 hours in Ciudad Juarez.
Junior Sophia Navarro introduced this movement to Loretto because she wanted to expand the collection of coats in El Paso.
The juniors invited the sophomores and in total the girls collected over 300 jackets and blankets; 85% of which were donated by just by Loretto girls.
Sophia Navarro said, “My overall experience was amazing to see how if we all come together as a community we can help those in need.”
The collected jackets and blankets were donated to people who are suffering due to cold weather this season.
The coat drive is just another great example of how Loretto Academy believes in the spirit of giving during the holiday season.
