Senior year is often described as the most exciting yet overwhelming chapter of high school.
Between college applications, final grades, and the growing pressure of AP exams, it’s easy to feel like you’re being pulled in every direction.
That’s why we asked seniors: How have you managed to remain calm and succeed through all the chaos?
Mia Cervantes
“For AP exams, I crammed the night before and drank coffee to be more alert during the test.
I stayed calm by praying and doing activities I enjoy.”
“I think the hardest part of senior year for me was having faith in both God and in myself.
From nerve-wracking college applications to all the stress that accompanied senioritis, I’ve come to realize, with the support of my friends and family, that grades and test scores aren’t the only things that define one’s success in life; rather, the relationships you foster and the dedication you put into your passions are what will inevitably shape your future.”

“Time management is super important and crucial, especially if you are studying for multiple tests.
I use my agenda to plan and organize my study times throughout the week; that way, I will have the time I need to prepare myself, but also prioritize all the senior events happening.
But the hardest thing is definitely finding the time with all the events we are planning, but it is possible if you organize yourself.”

Lauren Domengeaux
“I think I managed to stay calm thanks to the people who took the test with me.
My classmates were really able to keep me grounded and study when everything was getting so hectic.
I think the hardest part was just trying to find the motivation to study.
I think it happens to me every year, not just seniors, just cause I can finally see the end, you know. But once I can actually get myself to do work, it’s not too bad.”

Angela Johny
“I would always follow a schedule to avoid falling behind on all my pending assignments, quizzes, and tests.
For all four years, I have used my agenda, which helps me find some peace amongst the chaos because it helps me stay organized.
If I don’t have my agenda, then I can’t function.
I always just tried to stay organized so that I wouldn’t become so overwhelmed by all I had to do.
The hardest part for me was finding the energy to be able to dedicate time to both my academics and my extracurriculars.
However, I have learned after many trials that the best way to deal with everything I have to do is by staying organized.”

“The only thing that helps to remain grounded during AP testing season is taking time for myself.
I study and make sure I know the material, but I give myself breaks to eat, sleep, and re-energize myself.”

“It was definitely challenging to stay calm throughout it all, and there were for sure a lot of tearful late nights, but in the end, it’s about knowing how to manage your time well.
It takes a lot of discipline and sacrifice.
Things became easier when I learned when to put my phone down and prioritize my goals.
Instead of spending my free class time conversing with friends, I had to learn when to stop, take my assignments out, and get to work.
Every little bit I could get done, even if it was just one problem, helped a lot.”

“This year has definitely challenged me academically, but in order to stay on task, I have prioritized the way I handle my free time.
By ensuring to give myself enough time to do the rigorous coursework, I have been able to remain motivated and productive, even if it may include waking up two to three hours before school begins.”
